New radio show highlights the experiences of people living with homelessness.

We hope that the radio show Inspires you to offer help.  We have three ways you can do that: Time, Money, Goods.

TIME: Many shelters, service groups and others can use your assistance in preparing food, goods, services, etc... each has it's own set of criteria, so please contact them directly for the details:

MONEY: Your donations are always welcome and helpful. Baltimore HealthCare Access is a Maryland 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and your donation is likely tax deductable, but you should verify with your accountant. See two possible contributions options below!

Option 1 – Veronica Guthrie Emergency Fund

Contribute towards a fund which allows Homeless Services to pay for emergency needs of people experiencing homelessness, such as transportation (bus tokens, bus tickets), food, birth certificates and photo IDs required for drug treatment and health insurance programs.

Option 2 – Both Feet In Shoes and Socks Fund

Contribute any amount towards a fund which allows Homeless Services to purchase $30 gift cards for people experiencing homelessness to purchase shoes and socks. Many of the people we work with often have to take the bus or walk miles to get to places for food and shelter, and for job interviews, and ill-fitting shoes make the experience stressful and painful. Having the luxury of buying shoes that fit and they can choose based on their individual taste, would be a gift. They may also use the gift card to purchase shoes because they are currently shoe-less. Frostbite is a common dangerous occurrence among people experiencing homelessness in the winter, and good shoes and socks may save a person’s limbs and life.

GOODS: See the list below for needed items!

Since 2000 over 196 Baltimore babies have died due to unsafe sleeping arrangements such as sleeping with a sibling or parent. Many more are at risk every day.

For four years we have been delivering free cribs to families who otherwise could not afford them for their newborns.  Donations to the Crib Fund go directly to purchase life saving sleep for Baltimore babies.

After a local community grant was exhausted, BHCA recognized an ongoing need to continue to provide emergency funding and/or items to families in need. The fund assists with emergent needs like formula, diapers, wipes, Goodwill vouchers, and bus tokens. This new fund has assisted many Baltimore families by providing immediate access to needed items until we can link them to ongoing programs and community support.

The Emergency Fund has recently been renamed the Veronica Guthrie Emergency Fund after a long standing BHCA employee who lost her battle with cancer. Veronica’s caring nature and insightful community outreach inspired all of us and we are proud to continue her legacy in this small way.
