Project HEALTH in Baltimore!

Preoject HEALTH baby

Project HEALTH works to break the link between poverty and poor health by mobilizing college students to implement sustained public health interventions throughout the city.  Beginning in 2006, Project HEALTH partnered with the Baltimore City Health Department, Baltimore HealthCare Access, Inc., Johns Hopkins Children’s Center, Loyola College, and Johns Hopkins University to bring a Family Help Desk to the Johns Hopkins pediatric facility - the Harriet Lane Clinic. Since that time Project HEALTH has opened 2 additional sites around the city serving Baltimore families and has added student from the University of Maryland Baltimore County .  Project HEALTH also sponsors the CAP4KIDS Baltimore website.

Project HEALTH in Baltimore is made possible by funding from the Strauss Foundation, the Abell Foundation, The Baltimore City Health Department, Baltimore Medical System, Total Health Care, and the Leonard and Helen R. Stulman Foundation.

The Family Help Desk programs are integrated within the clinical sites and are designed to connect families with vital resources, information, and services such as housing, food assistance, employment, education, child care, and health insurance.  Students follow-up with these families and assist them even further in navigating complex systems and overcoming barriers. This program not only empowers families to improve their health and well-being, but it also provides college students the values and leadership skills that they carry back to their campuses and into their subsequent careers.
